Rule of 72
Rule of 72 tells us how money grows with compound interest and how long money takes to double in size.
The big factor is the interest rate.
If you have $100,000 in a CD......
And you have 3 choices of interest rates....
  • 3%
  • 6%
  • 12%
3% divided by 72 = 24 years to double to $200,000.
6% divided by 72 = 12 years to double to $200,000.
12 % divided by 72 = 6 years to double to $200,000.
